ATF requires annual written explosives-storage notices to local fire authorities

ATF amended its explosives regulations at 27 CFR part 555 so that anyone storing explosive materials must submit written notice to the local fire-safety authority every 12 months after storage begins and again when storage ceases, in addition to the existing notice when storage begins, and must retain copies for five years. The final rule, published September 25, 2026 at 91 FR 60803, takes effect October 26, 2026.
