EPA issues clean data determination for Berrien and Muskegon County, Michigan ozone areas

The Environmental Protection Agency issued a final rule determining that the Berrien County and Muskegon County, Michigan nonattainment areas attained the 2015 ozone national ambient air quality standards. The determination rests on certified 2023–2025 monitoring data and Michigan's exceptional events request, which EPA concurred in on January 12, 2026. The agency suspends the areas' attainment demonstration and related planning requirements for as long as they continue to attain. It took effect October 9, 2026.
