California requires pornographic websites to keep nonconsensual and underage content off their sites

Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 1705 on September 30, 2026. From January 1, 2027, operators of pornographic websites must exercise ordinary care and take reasonable steps to ensure displayed and uploaded sexually explicit content does not include anyone who did not consent, was a minor when it was made, or did not consent to its upload. Uploaders must certify the depicted individuals' status under penalty of perjury.
