California requires attorney general notice before producing abortion or gender-affirming care records
Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 1930 on September 26, 2026, as Chapter 468 of the Statutes of 2026. Adding Civil Code section 1798.309, it requires any person or entity served with subpoenas, discovery requests, or other legal-process requests concerning legally protected abortion or gender-affirming care to notify the Attorney General at least seven business days before producing records. The Attorney General may intervene in protective actions and seek injunctions and civil penalties, including $15,000 for a false attestation.
