California requires bars to offer drink-testing devices and post notices
AB 1982 (Chapter 377), signed September 20, requires applicants for and holders of Type 48 on-sale general public premises licenses to offer customers drug testing devices, such as strips or straws that detect controlled substances in drinks, at no more than a reasonable wholesale-based price. Licensees must post a prescribed notice about drink lids and test kits in a prominent location. Violations are not crimes, and licensees are shielded from liability for defective tests or inaccurate results.
