California orders long-range, risk-prudent renewable transmission planning
AB 2111, the Accelerating Renewable Energy Delivery Act (Chapter 382), signed September 20, requires the Public Utilities Commission, consulting the Energy Commission, to give the Independent System Operator transmission-focused guidance on portfolios of expected renewable and zero-carbon resources. The commission must submit at least three risk-prudent, near-term resource portfolios spanning plausible futures and request approval of transmission projects it finds reasonable, with projections covering at least 20 years.
