California creates 100-foot buffer zone around houses of worship
Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2664 on September 25, adding Penal Code section 594.38, which bars anyone within 100 feet of a house of worship's entrance from intentionally approaching within 8 feet of a person entering or exiting to pass leaflets, display signs, protest, or harass. A first violation is a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1,000 or six months in jail; repeat violations carry up to $5,000 or one year.
